Author Megan Hess Releases New Book “Claris: Holiday Heist”
“Claris: Holiday Heist” is a new children’s book by author Megan Hess. A fashionable, fast-paced, heist story set during the holiday season, “Claris: Holiday Heist” follows the adventures of a mouse named Claris who takes on a cat burglar during the Christmas season in New York City. Anyone who is familiar with NYC, especially 5th avenue, will hold special appreciation for this story which features some of the most popular stores and locations that truly deck the halls come December. The story is adorable and is beautifully color coded in heavily red, green, gold, and white hues.
This book is part of a larger series focusing on Claris, a mouse who is obsessed with fashion. Intended for readers ages three and older, there are more than a million publications in print. The rhyming text makes the series even more fun to read as children get immersed in Claris’ world. “Claris: Holiday Heist” is the fourth story in the series. “Claris: The Chicest Mouse in Paris” is the first story in the series that introduces readers to the character of Claris and provides her origin story. The second book, “Claris: Fashion Show Fiasco” focuses on Claris’ attempts to enjoy a fashion show during the famous Fashion Week. The third book, “Claris: Bonjour Riviera,” follows Claris and her family as they head off to a beautiful seaside location.
Each story features Claris, her cat friend Monsieur, and a cast of assorted wacky characters (including the dreadful “Brat” who is the daughter of the wealthy couple in whose ritzy apartment Claris resides) embarking on some sort of fashion-focused adventures. Fans of luxury brands will truly delight in this series which drops many odes and so-called Easter eggs to major brands and designers. Yet for all its celebrations of the high-end and fine, the stories have heart at their center with messages about friendship, sharing, and charity shining through.
Author Megan Hess knows her subject matter very well since she has established a career as an acclaimed fashion illustrator who has worked with global luxury brands including Chanel, Dior, Cartier, Montblanc and Tiffany & Co. Megan is also the official illustrator for Bloomingdales New York, did the cover artwork for the “Sex and the City” book series, and has worked on projects with Michelle Obama and Gwyneth Paltrow.
For anyone who loves children’s books, fashion, Paris, New York City, and animals — especially those who think white mice are cute — the “Claris” series is certainly worth checking out. Each book also contains a spread featuring Claris fantastic clothes all designed by Megan Hess and these intricate drawings are truly enchanting.
