BrewLogix, a technology solutions company, recently announced the launch of their brand-new BreweryDB mobile app — a companion to the BreweryDB website. BreweryDB serves as the world’s largest curated database of independent craft brews and breweries. Visitors are able to search for specific brands and even customize the kinds of brews that they would like to savor. Over 13,000 breweries from all over the world are included in the database.

Lori Bolin is the President and Chief Strategy Officer for BrewLogix and serves as the primary product consultant for the company’s Performance Platform. She is also co-owner of Crossroads Kombucha in the Midwest. She recently discussed her career and more via an exclusive interview.

Meagan Meehan (MM): How did you get interested in beer and how did you break into the brewery industry?

Lori Bolin (LB): The craft beverage community (creators and sellers) is blessed with genuine, passionate, creative people who want the best experiences for their businesses and their guests. They are what drew me into this industry. The opportunity to help them thrive is what drives me every day.

MM: What prompted you to use technology to further the reach of beer?

LB: BrewLogix had a unique set of technology assets that, if modernized and reengineered, exhibited the potential to easily increase the profitability of on-premises beverage programs. This was a blockbuster opportunity that our whole team was drawn to. For me, the chance to improve the financial and customer outcomes of the great men and women innovating and investing in craft beverage/hospitality motivated diving deeply and boldly into leading edge technology that would address their priorities with ease.

MM: How long did it take to develop the platform?

LB: Over the course of three years, BrewLogix developed a craft beverage community (an “ecosystem”) that connects creators, sellers, and consumers. It unifies four distinct technology platforms that help creators attract and retain customers, increase product sell-through and guest experiences for on-premises sellers, and helps consumers find, design, and share craft beverage experiences. Of course, development of a technology community is never done, so our team of customers, product, and engineering experts breaks new ground every day to continually improve outcomes for our customers.

MM: What are some of the most unusual and/or memorable blends in the database?

LB: That’s my favorite question! With nearly 200,000 craft products in our database, there are countless contenders for this category. Craft beverages earn their distinction through unique flavor notes, seasonal appeal, limited availability, or innovative packaging. Embracing the upcoming Winter season, Mad Tree’s ‘Holly Days’ stands out — it’s an American IPA infused with spruce tips, capturing the essence of the holidays. An additional example that comes to mind is Boston Beer Company’s ‘Sam Adams Utopias.’ This highly coveted brew, released intermittently, showcases the artistry of blending diverse ales aged in an array of barrels for several years. Its complexity and rarity make it a true gem in the world of craft beers.

MM: What is your favorite beer?

LB: In Indianapolis it’s tough to beat “Prim” a barrel-aged fruited sour ale by Upland Brewing Company and “Orange Vanilla Sunlight” a cream ale from Sun King Brewery. But my absolute favorite was from a brewery now closed (tragic!) — a breakfast stout with coffee, orange peel, and vanilla notes that was so nicely integrated and well done that it became my go-to for gift-giving. Above all else, experiencing craft on draft (including kombucha and cider!) is my favorite beverage experience of all.

MM: How do you hope the platform evolves over the next five years?

LB: In the approaching years, our platforms are poised to revolutionize how creators, sellers, consumers, and industry leaders engage in the on-premise landscape. Envisioning a tightly knit ecosystem seamlessly integrated into every on-premises space, we aim to elevate craft beer interactions, nurturing a robust sense of community and enriching experiences. Whether it’s optimizing operations with BrewMenu and The Performance Platform, amplifying marketing efforts through MarketMyBrewery, or effortlessly discovering your favorite craft beverage and brewery on BreweryDB, our objective remains steadfast: simplify processes and empower operators to deliver unparalleled guest experiences, ultimately saving them money, maximizing their time, and ensuring an unmatched level of service.

MM: What are your ultimate goals for the future and is there anything else that you would like to mention?

LB: Our overarching business goals are tied to shaping the future trajectory of the craft beverage industry. We are determined to enhance the survival rate of on-premises hospitality establishments while addressing the industry’s pressing staffing challenges through easily implementable solutions. On a personal level, I aspire to create a direct and positive influence on my family’s ‘next generation.’ These objectives fuel our endeavors, both professionally and personally, driving our commitment to meaningful impact.
