My Phone: Interview with Musical Artist Tiara Gem
“My Phone” is a new single by singer and songwriter Tiara Gem who grew her fan base via social media. “My Phone” is the ultimate girls’ song for summer that blends R&B and pop. She recently granted an exclusive interview where this song — and more — was discussed!
Meagan Meehan (MM): When did you first realize that you wanted to be a musical artist and how would you describe your style and sound?
Tiara Gem (TG): I first realized I wanted to be a musical artist during the pandemic in early 2020. A really good friend of mine pushed me to make music and put me in the studio to encourage me.
MM: What typically comes to you first, the lyrics of a song or its melody?
TG: When I’m creating a song, the melody always comes first, then the lyrics come immediately after.
MM: What gave you the idea for “My Phone”?
TG: While I was creating the song “My Phone,” I was writing about my last relationship and my experience with the lack of trust I had for my former partner and my experience with him in that relationship.
MM: What is your favorite lyric in “My Phone” and why?
TG: My favorite lyric from my new single is “I’m moving on I’m advancing, I do not want you so stop it.” The reasoning behind that lyric being my favorite lyric is because it just says “I am fed up.” It says that I have left the relationship and I have moved on with my life + I don’t want him anymore!
MM: What inspired the theme of the music video and how long did it take to film?
TG: The inspiration for the music video was my previous relationship. The arguing/acting was a short visual of what I previously went through. The video took about six hours to shoot.
MM: What has been the best thing about working in the music industry so far?
TG: The best thing about working in the industry so far has been all of the love and support. I never expected so much.
MM: What projects are coming up for you soon, and is there anything else that you would like to discuss?
MM: I am working on my first project currently and I’m excited for everyone to hear. For now, keep watching for more singles, visuals, content, and a lot of features!
