The toy industry is a wonderful place to work. Reviewing toys and games are among my assignment highlights as a journalist although, occasionally, I am asked to review something that sounds completely out of the box and, quite frankly, a little ridiculous. My initial response to Silly Poopy’s Hide & Seek — a toy inspired and developed within a poop-is-funny trend among kids — was incredulousness. Surely, startup company What Do You Meme couldn’t be serious. However, once I saw the singing, belighted, rainbow-colored, poop-shaped plastic I couldn’t help but giggle. It is ridiculous, it is silly, but that is the point and all that silliness leads to a lot of laughter and fun.

“Silly Poopy’s Hide & Seek” is a silly singing and talking toy that puts humor into hide-and-seek. Shaped like a rainbow-colored poop emoji, Silly Poopy’s Hide & Seek retails for only $12.99 and was designed to entertain children as young as three. The way to play is simple: HIDE Silly Poopy, LOOK for Silly Poopy, and FIND Silly Poopy! As a reward, a song will play that you can dance to. According to the official press release, the toy works as follows:

1. Switch the toy to the ON position.

2. The players pick one person to hide Silly Poopy first, known as the “hider”.

3. Once the “hider” finds a good hiding spot for Silly Poopy, they press the Silly Poopy button and everyone else gets ready to play hide & seek.

4. Silly Poopy will say adorable random phrases and make funny noises as it gives helpful clues along the way.

5. Once the other players find Silly Poopy, they press the button again and together everyone involved gets ready to DANCE their silly poopy socks off!

Silly Poopy’s Hide & Seek is perfect for small group or even solo play (as long as someone else hides Silly Poopy). It encourages goal-oriented play, positive sportsmanship, problem solving skills and so much more. Make no mistake: this toy is indeed as silly as it sounds, but that is part of its unabashedly joyous appeal. The bright colors that illuminate any room beautifully are hard to resist and the cheerful little songs and statements — namely hiding place clues — which are emitted by the toy are relentlessly cheerful. The toy also gets kids up and moving. From running around playing hide and seek or dancing to the silly tunes, this toy is a welcome removal from being on a screen. It is also suitable for children as long as three and can be played with groups of two or many more.

Whilst the concept of this toy and its inclusion of a “fart button,” which emits rude sounds when pushed, is indeed ridiculous, the screen-free fun and exercise that children will get from playing with it is valuable. Silly Poopy’s Hide & Seek is available now at Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon as well as other retailers.
