Smart. Healthy. Green. Living Host Sabine H. Schoenberg Discusses Best Purifiers

Host Sabine H. Schoenberg.

Sabine’s New House is a television show that revolves around smart living and maintaining a green lifestyle via a new streaming service called Smart. Healthy. Green. Living. Sabine recently decided to focus her attention on raising awareness about the importance of air purifiers:

Homeowners must be aware of the pollutants that can cause allergies and other ailments and must be eliminated. Dust, dander, pollen, should be removed. Sabine recommends the following:

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filtration: This filter is really considered the gold-standard for air purification. The highly dense paper filter traps airborne contaminants and is often the first line of filtration on many top machines. Be sure to look out for the label “True HEPA Filter.” A True HEPA Filter is certified to remove 99.97% of all microscopic particles as small as 0.3 microns in size. Other’s may make the claim, but are not as effective.

Ionic Filtration: This is another must in our opinion when it comes to a solid air filtration machine. This system works by emitting a cloud of charged ions into the air that latches onto airborne contaminants causing impurities to gain weight and mass and fall to the floor and nearby surfaces to be cleaned up via dusting and vacuuming. This technology takes care of ultra-fine particles down to 0.01 microns in size and includes many bacteria and viruses. Key in a post COVID-19 world. With this technology it’s important to note that some unites may produce ozone. Per Consumer Reports “Because California has banned home air purifiers that emit ozone levels above 0.05 parts per million, they are sometimes erroneously marketed as emitting “activated oxygen,” “super oxygen,” or “energized oxygen.” If you see any of these terms on the packaging, move on.

Carbon Filtration: If odors and gasses are a concern in your environment, you’ll want to make sure your machine has a carbon filter. This filter doesn’t remove particulates, but is capable of absorbing odor causing gasses from the air that HEPA and Ionic filtration won’t.

Ultra Violet (UV) Light: Along with Ionic Filtration, ultra-violet light technology can ensure that the air passing through your air purification machine is free of bacteria and viruses by destroying their molecular DNA structure.

You must also consider where to place the purifier. If in a main living area, consider devices that are sleek, modern, and sculptural to enhance the room as opposed to just being a big eye sore. You’ll also want to pay attention to sound emitted from the machine. This is particularly important in sleeping areas. The following are air purifiers on the market that tick off many of the qualities Sabine likes to see in an air purifier, we encourage consumers to do their research and select the unit that best meets their needs.

· Alen BreatheSmart Classic Large Room Air Purifier — $688-$833

· Levoit Air Purifier — $90

· Molekule Air Purifier — $799

· Blueair Blue Pure 211+ — $300

· Dyson DP04 Air Purifier — $428 — $716

· Coway Airmega 400 Smart Air Purifier — $530-$749
