The Soul of Purpose” is a new book by mind-body wellness expert, author and TEDx Speaker Jaya Jaya Myra. The book explores the connections between purpose, spirituality and health and has received high praise from best-selling authors and medical experts including Dr. David Friedman, Dr. Josh Axe, Dr. Joel Kahn, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, Dr. Susan Shumsky, Cate Montana, Paul Schulick, and more.

Jaya Jaya Myra uses the publication to explain her thoughts about purpose as the very soul of health and wellness. Purpose is foundational to temperament, talents, and physical body. People custom-tailor their purpose and wellness blueprint via what JayJay calls “The WELL Method” which also helps create inclusive societies that promote tolerance, anti-racism, gender equality and social justice which supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Jaya Jaya Myra recently discussed her career and new book via an exclusive interview.

Meagan Meehan (MM): How did you get into writing books?

Jaya Jaya Myra (JJM): I have always wanted to be a writer, but the opportunity to write my first book was rather unconventional. A publishing company had seen an article I wrote and reached out to me about writing a book on the topic! It was an amazing opportunity that has turned me into a lifetime author with the plan of writing many more books.

MM: What inspired this latest book, why purpose?

JJM: My latest book, “The Soul of Purpose,” is very important to me because too few people understand the connections between purpose and health. It’s crucial for people to get how important simple things like lifestyle are to your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Purpose itself is foundational to even your physical body type, shape and structure, and is what determines your innate gifts and talents in life. It is the direct bridge between spirituality and health.

MM: What are some of the most important things purpose has granted to your life?

JJM: Health, wealth and happiness, quite literally. Writing is a huge part of my purpose, and being an author (and running a communication firm) is how I make a living. It also brings me satisfaction and happiness. When you live according to your purpose, things fully align so that you feel good about what you do.

MM: What do you wish more people knew they could do to practice daily wellness?

JJM: I wish more people knew how important food is to good mood and wellbeing. Food has a direct impact on mental and emotional health, and of course physical health as well. But if you’re not feeling good, looking at what you eat and don’t should be the first strategy to fix your life. Food regulates mood and can also promote strong, positive mental health — make it your primary resource for wellbeing.

MM: How did you start to attract media attention and was it difficult to become a public figure?

JJM: Growing a brand of any kind takes work and attention to detail. For me, I worked with some amazing people to understand the ins and outs of media production so that I would be a great media guest. For me, that meant enlisting an Emmy winning TV producer to teach me. It’s something I practice doing and take very seriously. It wasn’t hard per say, but I’ve put a lot of effort and attention into learning how to present myself in the way I want to be seen.

MM: How do you think personal wellbeing translates into societal wellbeing?

JJM: We can’t have strong, stable societies without strong, stable individuals. Personal wellbeing is a must if we want to create societies that are just and sustainable. You can’t expect other people to emulate something you cannot do yourself. If we want to end racism, prejudice and injustice, we ourselves need to learn to eliminate it in our own lives first.

MM: How do you hope your career evolves and expands from here?

JJM: I would love to have a nationally syndicated TV show focusing on mind body wellness and people who are making the world a better place. We need more positive media to motivate and inspire people to succeed!

MM: What projects are coming up for you soon and is there anything else that you would like to mention?

JJM: I am creating an online course to help people find and live their purpose, and create a personalized wellness plan based on each person’s unique elemental type which I am super excited about! That and I’ll soon begin writing my next book.
